EARLY THIS MORNING, ONE MAN WAS KILLED AND A SECOND INJURED IN AN ALLEGED GUN BATTLE BETWEEN TWO VEHICLES DRIVING ON BRANCH AVE, ACCORDING TO POLICE.
AS OF 9:30 THIS MORNING, SEVERAL BLOCKS OF NORTHBOUND BRANCH AVENUE WERE STILL CLOSED TO TRAFFIC. THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATORS WANTED TO WAIT FOR DAYLIGHT TO EXAMINE THE SCENE AND SEARCH FOR EVIDENCE.
ONE VEHICLE INVOLVED WAS DESCRIBED AS A GRAY HONDA, AND THE OTHER WAS ONLY DESCRIBED AS BLACK. ACCORDING TO PG COUNTY POLICE SPOKESMAN, HENRY TIPPET, THE VEHICLES WERE TRAVELING NORTH IN THE 4100 BLOCK OF BRANCH AVENUE WHEN THE SHOOTING BEGAN AROUND 2 A.M.
THE HONDA, THE ONLY CAR STILL ON THE SCENE, FLIPPED OVER AFTER THE TWO OCCUPANTS WERE STRUCK BY BULLETS. ONE MAN WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MULTIPLE GUNSHOT WOUNDS. ONE MAN, AGE 25, WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD A SHORT TIME AFTERWARDS. POLICE WILL NOT RELEASE HIS NAME UNTIL AFTER NOTIFICATION OF HIS FAMILY. THE OTHER, WAS PINNED BY THE OVERTURNED HONDA AND AFTER BEING CUT OUT OF THE VEHICLE, WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND IS REPORTED TO BE IN STABLE CONDITION.
THE OTHER VEHICLE INVOLVED FLED THE SCENE, AND POLICE ARE NOW SEARCHING FOR THAT VEHICLE AND ITS OCCUPANTS.
THE LANES CLOSED WERE BETWEEN ST. BARNABAS AND IVERSON STREET, ACCORDING TO TIPPET.
