IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, A VETERAN PG FIREFIGHTER WAS CHARGED WITH ARSON FOR ALLEGEDLY IGNITING A BLAZE ON HIS WAY TO WORK TWO WEEKS AGO.
ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, MICHAEL D. MURPHY, 42, WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SETTING FIRE TO A STACK OF BOXES AND NEWSPAPERS BEHIND THE ASIAN CARRY OUT RESTAURANT IN LANGLEY PARK, Md. REPORTS SAY THAT MURPHY THEN DROVE TO THE CHILLUM-ADELPHI FIRE/EMS STATION, WHERE THE CALL WOULD COME IN A FEW MINUTES LATER.
THE ESTIMATED DAMAGE TO THE RESTAURANT WAS ABOUT $1,000 ACCORDING TO MARK BRADY, A SPOKESMAN FOR THE COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT.
MURPHY, WHO WAS CHARGED THURSDAY, WAS CAUGHT ON THE RESTAURANT'S SECURITY CAMERA. HE WAS CHARGED WITH THREE FELONIES, INCLUDING FIRST-DEGREE ARSON. HE IS NOW ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE WITHOUT PAY.
