THE DISTRICT HAS ANNOUNCED THAT IT WILL BE ENDING ITS SAFETY INSPECTION PROGRAM FOR PRIVATELY OWNED CARS.
THE SWITCH IS SET TO GOT IN EFFECT OCT. 1. HOWEVER, THE CHANGE IS LEAVING SOME RESIDENTS EXTREMELY CONCERNED. ACCORDING TO SOME LOCAL RESIDENTS, NO SAFETY INSPECTION PROGRAM MEANS MORE UNSAFE CARS ON THE STREETS OF OUR NATION'S CAPITAL, WHICH DUE TO RESEARCH, CAN MEAN MORE ACCIDENTS.
DC COUNCIL WAS WON OVER BY THE FENTY ADMINISTRATION AND D.C. DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES PERSUASION TO END THE PROGRAM IN AN EFFORT TO SAVE $400,OOO. ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES THE EMISSIONS INSPECTION WILL STILL BE REQUIRED EVERY TWO YEARS FOR ALL CARS AND TRUCKS.
THIS CHANGE WILL MAKE THE DISTRICT THE FIRST IN THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION TO DROP ALL SAFETY INSPECTIONS OF PRIVATELY OWNED VEHICLES.
