IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, THE PROPOSED "PURPLE" LINE BEING DEVELOPED AS A LIGHT RAIL SYSTEM WAS ENDORSED BY COUNTY TRANSPORTATION PLANNERS EARLIER TODAY.
THE NEW LINE, WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO CONNECT MONTGOMERY AND PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, IS EXPECTED TO BE 16 MILES LONG WITH UP TO 22 STATIONS INCLUDING LOCATIONS IN SILVER SPRING, THE TAKOMA AND LANGLEY PARK AREAS, AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND'S COLLEGE PARK CAMPUS.
TRANSPORTATION PLANNERS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT THE LINE RUN TRAINS MOSTLY ABOVE GROUND. THE LINE IS STILL IN THE PLANNING PROCESS AND WILL NOT EXIST ANY TIME SOON. HOWEVER, THE PLAN WILL BE REVIEWED BY THE PLANNING BOARD NEXT MONTH.
